Alfredo Mercedes was a member of the Greater Cleveland Young Marines (OH). During Alfredo's time in the program, he attended several leadership schools. The award he is most proud of earning while in the program is his 3rd degree life saving ribbon. Alfredo was honorably discharged from the program at the rank of YM/GySgt. He says, "Young Marines gave me, for the first time, something to strive in excellence at and become a mentor for others".

From there, Alfredo joined the Marine Corps Reserves and trained to become an Infantry Mortarman. Currently Alfredo is a senior at Xavier University in Cincinnati (OH) and is studying International Business. After graduating, he plans to move to Fort Myers (FL) for a marketing leadership program with Hertz at their global headquarters. In Florida, Alfredo will also finish his contract in the reserves and will have spent 6 years in the Marine Corps Reserves.

Alfredo has credited a lot of his success to the Young Marines. "Young Marines brought reasoning and stability to my life. It motivated me to do better and be an example by giving 100%." Although he was ultimately successful, he said "My Young Marine career wasn’t always easy. Many times I failed, but the program taught me discipline and focus to do better. These traits helped me become an Infantry Mortarman in the Marine Corps Reserves and further my education."

We're proud to count Alfredo as a member of the Young Marines Alumni Association!
